Jiyong Lee is a Korean-American artist and professor known for his Segmentation series—sculptural works in glass that explore how complex structures emerge from simple units. Through the manipulation of optical glass, his work examines the relationship between microcosms and macrocosms, emphasizing the interplay of transparency and internal geometry. His work has received international acclaim, including being named a finalist for the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, receiving the Bavarian State Prize, and being featured in the Chanel Collection. His sculptures are held in major permanent collections, including The Corning Museum of Glass.
“Jiyong Lee’s intricate interplay of color and light could be rigid and stiff, but their execution and balance make them seem effortless, balanced, and unburdened.”
